Eco labels have become an important marketing tool for many companies and consequently the availability of different eco labels has grown.  However it is important to understand that not all eco labels are alike as each eco label differs in its approach.

The main textile eco labels are;
 

• Sustainable Textile Standard (USA)
• MBDC Cradle to Cradle Certification 
• Environmental Choice New Zealand (ECNZ)
• European Union (EU) Flower 
• Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA) 
• Oeko Tex 

Eco labels such as GECA, EU Flower and Oeko Tex address a single issue while others, such as the Sustainable Textile Standard and MBDC, are lifecycle based. The lifecycle issues addressed by each standard are circled in green.
